About the Chapel
Arthur's Pass Chapel is an interdenominational church and was dedicated in 1956, fulfilling a vision of welcoming all who cherish a quiet place in which to worship God or contemplate the glorious mountain environment. It is a place for regular Christian services (mainly on public holiday weekends), and hosts celebrations such as baptisms and weddings.
The chapel was sited and designed to enable a view of the waterfall. Voluntary labour, local stone, and donated goods and services kept the initial build costs down, with some funding from church grants and public contributions.
The chapel is run by a committee. The current contact person for enquiries is Helen Nguteren - helen@arthurspassecolodge.co.nz.
Current Fundraising
The Arthur’s Pass Chapel committee is seeking funds to urgently complete roof repairs.
These are the first significant repairs in the chapel’s seven decades. They are now underway, with assistance from the Selwyn District Council’s Heritage Protection Fund. The repairs will ensure ongoing structural integrity and replace roof beams above the porch which require steel strengthening.
